Privacy policy
This website, kaushikdesai.com, is a personal portfolio run by Kaushik Desai in Pune, India. I keep data collection to a minimum. There is no advertising, no tracking cookies, no analytics profile and no account system.
What I collect
1. Messages you send through the contact form
If you use the form, I receive your name, email address and message by email so I can reply. The message is not stored on the website itself. I use it only to answer you and do not share it or add you to any mailing list. To limit spam, the form uses a hidden field and a short per-visitor delay that relies on a one-way hash of your IP address kept briefly in the server's temporary files.
2. The view counter
The footer shows how many times the site has been visited. Each browser is counted at most once per day. To do this, your browser stores today's date in its local storage (not a cookie); this value never leaves your device. The server only stores a single running total and does not record who you are, your IP address or your location. Obvious bots are not counted.
3. Technical data kept by my hosting provider
The site is hosted by Hostinger. Like all web servers, it may keep standard access logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) for security and maintenance. I do not use these logs to identify visitors. See Hostinger's privacy policy.
Third parties
- Google Fonts: the site loads its typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google's servers and your IP address is shared with Google for that purpose.
- Links to other sites: LinkedIn, GitHub, ORCID, Google Scholar, Instagram, publishers and my other projects are separate websites with their own privacy practices.
Cookies
This site does not set cookies, so there is no cookie banner. Third-party sites you visit through links may set their own.
Your choices and rights
You can ask me to see, correct or delete any message or personal information you have sent me by emailing desaikaushik1997@gmail.com. You can also clear this site's local storage in your browser at any time. If you are in the EU/UK or India, you may have additional rights under the GDPR or the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and I will respect them.
